Obi Grant: The Artist
Obi Grant is a first generation Nigerian American sculptor residing in Houston, TX since 2003. As a child, while Obi’s mother would take him and his siblings to the local library, he would sneak off to find the most intricate origami books he could find. Although he formally studied biological and physical sciences, gaining a bachelor's degree from the University of Houston-Downtown, Obi explored advancing his innate creative talents as a photographer for the past 10 years. Throughout his commercial photography career, primarily focused on product/still life and beauty genres, Obi found a love for engineering and crafting his own props and tools needed to achieve desired themes in his photographs. This soon spawned his desire to explore a more tangible art form - sculpting. Obi’s 2D and 3D sculptures primarily exhibit both a natural human aesthetic along with more purely abstract forms, with some pieces blending the lines of the two.
Able to produce unique, high quality art pieces and products, Obi has surprised not only his peers, but also his clients, when they hear that he has had no formal education in photography or sculpting. Equipped with an endless array of creative ideas, an insatiable appetite for knowledge, and a can-do attitude, Obi proves each day that he is able to push the limits of what a creative with endless drive can accomplish.
